A New Leadership Forum
Everyday at Leadership Excellence we engage in conversations with people all over the world who have committed themselves to the leadership development field. They are incredibly gifted individuals who are educated and experienced in varied walks of life.
Many are speakers and authors, some are CEO’s, some are consultants who design models for leadership development, and some are just committed to making their own business a success. The common thread that connects them to each other - and to us - is their desire to grow and build leadership excellence.
Nancy Low was speaking with Georgia Patrick, President of The Communicators, Inc., last week as Leadership Excellence has been invited to participate in a process with Linked 2 Leadership (Tom Shulte), a group on LinkedIn, a business networking site to create a leadership blog. Linked2leadership is a group of professionals dedicated to leadership development, organizational health, personal, and professional growth.
What is exciting about creating a blog experience is it will attract participants who would otherwise not have a voice within their own organizations to ask questions or to openly discuss topics (lack of cultural trust, how bully management tactics are not leadership, etc).
The ultimate goals of these conversations:
- to build authentic leadership, nurtured individually and within organizations
- to evolve cultures of trust, so employees and officers of companies with integrity will create exponential growth and productivity
- to replace cultures of fear, stagnation, and counterfeit leadership with those of growth and success
- to inspire individuals to grow in the areas of servant leadership, building teamwork, personal growth or values and attitudes
The idea of authentic leadership may seem unattainable to many who are confused by the misuse of the term “leader” - especially when we see it applied to those who work on Capital Hill as our elected representatives by the media (CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS STUNNED BY…). It does make you wonder what is it about lies, betrayal, and abuse of power that qualifies someone to be a “leader”. While this can be said about corporate scandal as well, abuse of leadership is not only at top levels of organizations and government. It happens at all levels of small and large businesses; you just don’t read about it in the paper.
In a recent article submitted by Judith Glaser and Deborah Gerrand, frequent contributors to Leadership Excellence, they state:
Research has shown that of the top 20 characteristics of admired leaders, Integrity is selected #1 almost 90% of the time across all companies, industries and leaders. The next most frequently selected attribute is 20 points lower.
Leadership Excellence will eagerly participate with Linked2Leadership to create an environment where conversations about integrity in leadership will be an opportunity for innovation and transformation. Watch for the more news about that in the future.
